Lavender Vanilla Bath Salts inspired by A Fellowship of Librarians and Dragons
Welcome to the Bathtub Bookwyrm sanctuary!
This is the first recipe of our Bathtub Bookwyrm series of literary inspired herbal baths. I am so excited to bring it to you! In many ways, Nerdy Fairy was born from this idea and this love I have for reading in the tub and inspiration to craft herbal recipes based on books that I find so comforting.
Because every cozy book deserves a curated herbal bath.
Are you ready?
Let’s go…
The Inspiration: Doli and Grammy’s Lavender Vanilla Duo
There is a special magic that happens when lavender and vanilla meet. Have you ever encountered it? My first experience was with an infused coconut oil from a little body care shop I worked at in my 20s. I loved to massage that lovely, rich lavender vanilla oil into the ends of my hair. This duo is one of my favorite herbal combinations! And so, I was delighted when reading A Fellowship of Librarians & Dragons by J. Penner, to find that the protagonist, Doli, loves vanilla while her Grammy loves lavender. Their relationship is so sweet. It was very heart-touching to read.
When these two plants come together, there is a comfort and sense of love that manifests in beautiful aroma. This relaxing bath salt recipe blend is offered in honor of Doli and her Grammy. I hope that you enjoy it, as a cozy book and bath pairing: perhaps while reading A Fellowship of Librarians & Dragons or with any cozy book.

Lavender Vanilla Bath Salts Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups Epsom salts
1 cup fine pink Himalayan salt
½ cup baking soda
1 vanilla bean scraped, optional
1 to 2 tbsp lavender blossoms
½ tsp vanilla extract
10 drops lavender essential oil
1 tablespoon carrier oil such as jojoba oil, sweet almond, or lavender vanilla infused oil
Instructions
Place the salts, baking soda, scrapings from the vanilla bean and lavender blossoms in a bowl. Stir to combine.
In a separate small bowl, pour in your choice of carrier oil and drop in the lavender essential oil. Stir well to incorporate the essential oil into the carrier oil. (note that using a carrier oil will make your bathtub slippery)
Pour the oil mixture and vanilla extract into the dry salt mixture.
Stir again and break up any lumps formed by the liquids.
Package your salt bath in a pretty jar.. Seal well to keep the scent intact.
If you wish, add the vanilla bean to the bath which will impart even more scent to your bath salts.
Label and enjoy using 1 cup of the lavender vanilla bean salt mixture per bath.
📜 A Note from the Nerdy Fairy Archive for Bathtub Bookwyrms
While we love a magical soak, safety is the most important ingredient!
Please keep the following in mind before diving into a Bathtub Bookwyrm brew:
Slippery Surface: Oils, salts, and botanicals can make your tub slick. Please step carefully.
The Patch Test: If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on a small part of your skin before diving into a full body bath. Even fairies have allergies!
Consult Your Healthcare Professional: If you are pregnant, nursing, or have a medical condition, check with a healthcare professional before using new herbs or essential oils.
The Soggy Page Clause: I provide the recipes, but you provide the splash-guards! I recommend a sturdy bath tray to keep your books (and e-readers) safe from the herbal depths of your tub. Bonus! You can use the bath bridge to hold cookies, tea, and a candle.
Individual results may vary. Enjoy your ritual responsibly!
